Constitution of The Woodcraft League of America℠

Preamble: We, the members of the Woodcraft League of America℠, hereby establish this Constitution to guide and govern our organization. We are dedicated to promoting outdoor education, environmental stewardship, and the development of skills that foster self-reliance, community engagement, and a deep connection to nature. This Constitution reflects our commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive community for adults and children alike. We believe in the power of outdoor experiences to shape character, inspire creativity, and cultivate a lifelong love for the natural world.

Article I: Name and Purpose

Section 1: Name: The name of this organization shall be the Woodcraft League of America℠, hereinafter referred to as “the League.”

Section 2: Purpose:

The purpose of the League is to:

  1. Provide outdoor education programs and experiences that foster personal growth, leadership skills, and a sense of community.
  2. Promote environmental stewardship and conservation practices to ensure the preservation and sustainability of our natural resources.
  3. Develop and enhance outdoor skills, including camping, hiking, wilderness survival, and woodcraft.
  4. Cultivate a sense of wonder, respect, and connection to nature in individuals of all ages.
  5. Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that embraces diversity and encourages collaboration among members.

Article II: Membership

Section 1: Eligibility Membership in the League is open to individuals and families who share the values and objectives of the organization. Woodcraft League of America℠ membership is not restricted by age, gender, race, religion, or any other discriminatory factors.

Section 2: Rights and Responsibilities

  1. Every member shall have the right to participate in League activities, access educational resources, and contribute to the organization’s initiatives.
  2. Woodcraft League of America℠ members are encouraged to uphold the principles of environmental stewardship and act responsibly towards the natural world.
  3. Woodcraft League of America℠ members are expected to treat fellow members with respect, kindness, and inclusivity.
  4. Members are responsible for adhering to the League’s Code of Conduct and any additional rules or regulations established by the organization.
  5. Woodcraft League of America℠ members are encouraged to actively contribute to the growth and development of the League through volunteering, sharing knowledge, and participating in community initiatives.

Section 3: Termination of Woodcraft League of America℠ Membership may be terminated by voluntary withdrawal or by a decision of the Tribe Leader, following due process and a fair review.

Article III: Organization Structure

Section 1: Tribe Structure

  1. The League shall consist of geographically dispersed Tribes, each with its own Tribe Leader and local leadership.
  2. Tribes shall be responsible for organizing local activities, implementing programs, and fostering a sense of community among members.
  3. Tribes shall adhere to the League’s Constitution, Bylaws, and Code of Conduct.

Section 2: Amendments

  1. Any member of the League may propose amendments to this Constitution.
  2. Proposed amendments must be submitted in writing to the Tribe Leader and require a majority vote among Tribe members for approval.
  3. All amendments must be in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Article IV: Finances

Section 1: Membership Dues Members of the League shall pay annual dues to support the operations and initiatives of their respective Tribes.

Section 2: Funding The League’s funding shall primarily come from membership dues, sponsorships, and revenue generated from programs and events. The League shall operate as a for-profit business, and its financial accounts shall be managed transparently and responsibly.

Article V: Dissolution

In the event of the dissolution of a Tribe/ Lodge, remaining assets shall be distributed as the Tribe/ Lodge Owner sees fit.

Article VI: Lodge Support Section 1: Lodge Structure

  1. Each Lodge within the Woodcraft League of America℠ shall have the option to establish a Tribes to recruit members
  2. Lodges shall consist of experienced members who have demonstrated exemplary dedication to the values and objectives of the League.
  3. Lodges shall serve as mentors and advisors to Tribes, offering assistance in organizing events, implementing programs, and fostering strong community connections. Lodges shall provide additional support, resources, and guidance to Tribes as necessary.

Section 2: Lodge Recruitment

  1. The National Organization alone shall have the authority to recruit respective Lodges by having new Lodge Owners Apply to create a new Lodge.
  2. Recruitment shall be based on merit, commitment, and a demonstrated understanding of the values and objectives of the League.
  3. Prospective Lodge members (members within the Lodge themselves will be recruited by the Lodge Owners) shall undergo an evaluation process, which may include interviews, assessments, criminal background checks and recommendations from existing Lodge members.

Section 3: Lodge Responsibilities

  1. Lodges shall uphold and promote the Woodcraft League of America’s℠ Constitution, Bylaws, and Code of Conduct.
  2. Lodges shall provide guidance, support, and training opportunities to Tribe Owners, helping them develop their outdoor skills, leadership abilities, and knowledge of environmental stewardship.
  3. Lodges shall organize regular meetings, workshops, and events to foster camaraderie, exchange of ideas, and continuous learning within their immediate League community.
  4. Lodges shall actively collaborate with other Lodges, sharing best practices, resources, and experiences to enhance the overall growth and development of the Woodcraft League of America℠.

Article VII: Amendments and Bylaws

Section 1: Amendments

  1. Any member of the Woodcraft League of America℠ may propose amendments to this Constitution.
  2. Proposed amendments must be submitted in writing to the Tribe Leader or Lodge, if applicable, and require a two-thirds majority vote among the National League Board of Advisors for approval.
  3. All amendments must be in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Note: The Woodcraft League of America’s℠ Constitution and Woodcraft League Bill of Rights shall serve as guiding principles for the organization and its members. It is the responsibility of each member to uphold these principles, contribute positively to the community, and support the growth and well-being of the Woodcraft League of America℠.
